Effective Reading Level 1
Features of the course
Particularly recommended for people who read English at work, or who are considering up-skilling. Learn techniques to effectively gain the information you need from newspapers, magazines, reports and other documents. The course features a wide range of practice contents and skills training to improve understanding and efficiency, focus attention on key words and structures, develop the ability to predict text content and so on. Includes speed training and scanning training.
Course content
- This course teaches the 12 reading skills required for effective reading in English
- This course is split into two Modules A and B, each consisting of 12 lessons
- Each lesson takes about 45 minutes to complete
- Each lesson includes a study text and a skill check text -- two texts in total
- Employs a step-by-step system, whereby learners cannot proceed to the next problem without first solving the previous one
- There are two types of progress test
- Clear and rational explanation of effective reading techniques, including Speed Reading

2After studying Lessons 1 and 2, click on the next orientation or lesson

3When you've passed all of the lessons in Module A, take Progress Test 1

4When you've passed the progress test, move onto Module B, proceeding as with Module A. Finally, take Progress Test 2. (All lessons and tests may be taken any number of times within the course period.)

5Print your course completion certificate
Course completion requirements
Recommended: get 60% or more in all 24 lessons and two progress tests
Target audience
Individuals with a TOEIC® score of 300-450
Study period
Recommended: six months
System requirements
A PC which can be connected to the Internet (broadband connection recommended). Microsoft OS (Windows 2000, XP, Vista), Internet Explorer version 6 or above, the most recent version of Flash Player, Adobe Reader version 5 or above
